Description
Connect Egnyte to your AI assistant using Egnyte's fully-managed Model Context Protocol (MCP) server. Sign in and authorize through Egnyte using discovered OAuth 2.1; you enter your own Egnyte domain during sign-in, and no API key needs to be pasted into Simtheory.
Work with your Egnyte content conversationally, including:
- Full-text search across file names, document content, and metadata, with ranked results and content snippets
- Advanced search with filters for folder path, item type, custom metadata namespaces, and modified or uploaded date ranges
- Folder browsing and file listings, including permissions and custom metadata
- File reading, returning a markdown or plain-text representation with pagination for long documents
- AI summaries and document Q&A, plus the Egnyte AI Assistant and queries against your Knowledge Bases
- Project folders, comments, and share links
- Custom metadata, discovering the namespaces defined for your domain and setting values on files
Two things make this connection different from a read-only connector. First, it can make changes: it can create folders, upload text files, set custom metadata, and post comments, so the assistant is instructed to confirm with you before performing any write. Second, it can share content externally: creating a share link can expose a file or folder outside your organisation, so the assistant is instructed to confirm the link type, accessibility, expiry, and recipients before creating one, and never to widen accessibility beyond what you asked for.
Data access respects the connected account's existing Egnyte permissions. If a user cannot see a file or folder in Egnyte, the assistant will receive a permission error or an empty result rather than the underlying content. Egnyte acts as a secure conduit and does not store or cache any content accessed through the MCP server.
The tools available to each connection are controlled by Egnyte and vary by plan. Customers on Gen 3 Platform plans without the AI Add-On have access only to folder listing, advanced search, and file content; the AI-powered tools such as document Q&A, summaries, the AI Assistant, and Knowledge Bases require the AI Add-On. Egnyte's standard API rate limits apply, and the AI APIs have stricter limits.
